Affirming, encouraging, empowering, inspiring, amazing, friendly, refreshing, fun – these are just some of the words used to describe the first ever Esther Collective Residential, which took place at Cliff College from Thursday 20 July to Sunday 23 July 2017.
The theme of the weekend was discover your Esther story, and the event was open to women of all ages, both inside and outside of Girls’ Brigade. Through a mixture of creative sessions, periods of reflection, and sharing with one another, the group journeyed through the story of Esther to see how God might be speaking to them through this story today.
Every aspect of the weekend, from King Xerxes’ banquet on the first night, to the pamper party in the middle, to the Purim Party at the end, reflected a different part of the story of Esther.
Charlotte, who leads The Esther Collective project, says ‘The story of Esther is one of a girl who discovers her identity in God, commits to following God’s purpose for her life, and steps out of her comfort zone to speak out against injustice. We immersed ourselves in this story during the weekend and found God speaking to each of us in different ways. Plus we weren’t afraid to step out of our comfort zones – especially during our very own lip sync battle!’
Jessie, who took part in the event, says ‘The Esther Collective has enabled me to kick-start a journey of hope and discovery. One that has equipped and encouraged me to courageously live life through my God-given purpose.’
